Following on from defeating France during the week Los Pumitas made it two wins from two matches in the 2016 World Rugby Junior World Championship this afternoon, defeating South Africa 19-13 in Manchester, England.
The Baby Boks started well, with fly half Curwin Bosch opening the scoring in the 5th minute. It would be cancelled out by Domingo Miotti six minutes later.
With a further penalty from either fly half the scores were tied at 6-6 after 35 minutes. Los Pumitas then scored the game’s opening try, and the only one of the first half, with right winger Tomás Malanos touching down.
Having the half time lead Los Pumitas played a second half match to hold off the South Africans and win the fixture.
The strategy proved effective with two second half Miotti penalties being sufficient for Los Pumitas to stay in front throughout. The Baby Boks did threaten at stages, though, with loosehead prop Franco Van der Berg going over.
The try was not enough as ill discipline from the Baby Boks complicated their performance as two players were yellow carded.
