Selknam Go Big for Super Rugby Americas 2025

Selknam have gone big for Super Rugby Americas 2025. A deep roster of 48 players will be under the command of Head Coach Jake Mangin for a second campaign. The New Zealander will have Argentines Nicolás Bruzzone and Eduardo Acosta as his assistants. Bruzzone was a long-time servant of Los Pumas 7’s. Acosta is a former Head Coach of Paraguay and former test player for Portugal.

Selknam will open their 2025 campaign on February 15.  The Chileans will do so on the road against Yacare in Asunción, Paraguay. From there Selknam travel to São Paulo to face Os Cobras in round two. The first home game for Sleknam will be in round three against reigning champions Los Dogos.

The regular Super Rugby Americas season will consist of 42 matches. The play-off’s will follow before the July Internationals. After that will be the most important fixtures of the year; Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay will participate in Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers in 2025. Super Rugby Americas 2025 will be vital match preparation for all four countries.

 

Selknam welcome back former skipper and Chilean national captain Martín Sigren. He is back home from Major League Rugby (MLR) champions the New England Free Jacks. This is a boost for Chile’s Rugby World Cup preparations. The same is true of Augusto Bohme; the hooker is also back from the MLR.

Additional recruitment has seen the inclusion of 2024 Chilean debutant Juan Cruz Reyes. He is one of three players from Argentina on the roster. Cruz Reyes is the only back not born in Chile but one of two backs included who play their rugby abroad. Tomás Baguley Bonsma was born in Chile to South African parents. He moved to Malaysia aged 2 and toe South Africa aged 9.

The three Argentines on the Selknam roster are Cruz Reyes, Nahuel DeBiassi and Agustín Toth. DeBiassi is a 24-year-old from Mendoza. He played for Teqüe Rugby Club in Argentina and PWCC in Chile. Toth is a 25-year-old from Buenos Aires. He is a product of Lomas Athletic Club.
