Gori to captain Italy on Americas Tour

Italian scrum half will captain the Azzurri in place of Sergio Parisse next month the FIR confirmed. The Benetton Treviso number 9 has been designated captain by the new Italian Head Coach Conor O’Shea.

Parisse’s non-availability is not due to the Top 14, but, rather is a case of player management. Now aged 32 it is hoped that the Argentine-Italian will be able to play for Italy in Rugby World Cup 2019.

Aged 26 Gori has already earned 50 test caps for his country. He was one of Italy’s best players at Rugby World Cup 2015 and is considered as being among the leading European scrum halves.

The Italians are to play one test match in each of Argentina, the USA and Canada. First up will be away to Los Pumas in Santa Fé on June 11. From there Italy will travel to California to face the Eagles in San Jose on June 18. The third match will be in Toronto on June 26.
