Herrera Handed Two week Ban, to miss Italy Test

Los Jaguares first choice tighthead prop Ramiro Herrera has been suspended for two weeks, the Argentine Super Rugby franchise confirmed this evening.

The front-rower from Patagonia was red carded in Los Jaguares away loss against the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth on Friday. He was the second of two players sent off in the game’s first half and would be joined by a third who was yellow carded with ten minutes remaining.

The suspension, starting immediately is, in effect a three-week ban as the two weeks that Herrera is set to miss are on top of the red card sanction giving in the opening half on Friday.

Herrera will miss out on being eligible for selection against Italy on Saturday June 11. The match is to be the first of three home internationals next month. After missing the match in Santa Fé he will be free to return to play in the two-match home series against France.

Herrera is the second Jaguares player whose suspension will impact on Los Pumas. Rugby World Cup 2015’s first choice Pumas 8 Leonardo Senatore will also miss out. Yet to have his fate known is second-rower Tomás Lavanini who was also red carded in the first half on Friday.
