Argentina and Americas Entirely Snubbed by World Rugby Awards

No Americas player will win a World Rugby award in 2024. North and South America received a grand total of zero nominees across all categories. Argentina’s greatest Rugby Championship has been ignored as no player nominated. No rookie was nominated and no try was nominated.

World Rugby nominated three South Africans and one Irishman for Men’s Player of the Year. and one from each of England, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa for the Men’s Breakthrough Player of the Year award. The try of the Year nominees all play for European teams: France, Georgia, Ireland, and Italy.

Franco Molina played in every test match for Argentina while Jamie Osbourne debuted in July against South Africa. He was a replacement against Argentina this past Friday and did not play in the Six Nations.

ARN expected either Juan Martín González or Juan Cruz Mallía to be a candidate for the Player of the Year but neither has been shortlisted.

The Women’s categories lack USA and Canada nominees entirely. They are dominated by Australia, England and New Zealand players.
