Bautista Delguy and Jerónimo de la Fuente were try scorers in Top 14 wins this weekend. They did so for Clermont and Perpignan who were respective winners over Bordeaux and Vannes. The tries were in the final round before the November Internationals begin for both France and Argentina.
Delguy was a try scorer against his former club. He finished off a score in the right corner against the Top 14 league leaders. Clermont were 32-27 winners with former Puma Benjamín Urdapilleta also starting. Delguy played right wing and Urdapilleta played fly half. Clermont are now tied for 4th with Toulon and Castres.
Jerónimo de la Fuente captained Perpignan to a 32-13 home win over Vannes. The realist lifts Perpignan to 9th position in the Top 14. It was a notable encounter as both teams featured Pumas as their captains. de la Fuente led Perpignan while Francisco Gorrissen captained Vannes.
de la Fuente’s score involved soccer skills. He started and finished off the try. He was one of three Pumas playing for Perpignan. Ignacio Ruiz was hooker and Joaquín Oviedo played N8. Gorrissen was joined by Chile’s Iñaki Ayarza in the starting line-up and former Puma Santiago Medrano was a replacement.
Neither de la Fuente nor Gorrissen are on the Pumas roster for the November Internationals. Argentina face Italy, Ireland and France. Delguy is on the roster and he also played in both the July Internationals and the Rugby Championship. de la Fuente played for Argentina against France and Uruguay in July.
