Brazil Appoint New Women’s 7’s Head Coach

As Yaras 7’s will be coached by a woman for the first-time. Brazil’s National Women’s Rugby 7’s team is now coached by Crystal Kaua. The New Zealander replaces Englishman Will Broderick who stepped down from the position following the Paris Olympic Games.

Kaua began her coaching career with Mie Paerls in Japan. She subsequently was a part of the New Zealand Women’s coaching staff at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games. The Black Ferns 7’s won Gold Medals in Tokyo.

She spend the subsequent years coaching Chiefs Manawa in Super Rugby Aupiki, the Women’s Super Rugby competition. The team finished runners-up to Blues Women in the 2024 season.

Kaua will have her first experience in command of As Yaras 7’s later this month. Brazil will participate in the 2024 South American Rugby Sevens tournament in Lima, Peru. It will be followed by the Rugby Sevens World Circuit (SVNS) in Dubai, UAE.

She will be in charge of the Brazilian Women’s 7’s team while Uruguayan Emiliano Caffera is head coach of both the Senior Men’s and Women’s teams.
