Chilean Javier Eissmann to play in France

Reports out of France indicate that Javier Eissmann is joining Agen to play in the Pro D2. The Chilean is being recruited as a Medical Joker for injured Irishman John Madigan. Official confirmation is expect from Agen in the coming days.

Madigan suffered a serious bicep injury playing for Agen against Valence Romans. The blow means that Madigan will not play again for Agen until 2025. In seeking a replacement, Agen have approached Rugby World Cup second-rower Javier Eissmann.

Chile was the only debuting country at Rugby World Cup 2023. Eissmann had a busy tournament for Los Cóndores. He started against Japan in Toulouse, against England in Lille, against Argentina in Nantes and was a replacement against Samoa in Bordeaux.

His involvement has continued in the Rugby World Cup 2023-2027 cycle. Eissmann started in the July victories over Hong Kong in Talca and Belgium in Viña del Mar. He also started against Scotland in July and against the Argentina XV in September. He did not play in this past Saturday’s Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifier against Paraguay. Pro D2 player Bruno Sáez debuted for Chile against Paraguay.

The 27-year-old Eissmann is to arrive at Agen this week and slot immediately in to the team. He could form an Americas second-row combination alongside Canadian Evan Olmstead. The club is also home to former Pumas hooker Santiago Socino.

Eissmann is 2.01m (6ft7) tall and weighs 118kg (260lbs). He comes from the Universidad Católica club in Santiago. Eissmann featured in Chile’s High Performance system which also saw him playing for Selknam in Super Rugby Americas.
