Juan Martín González scored the third try for Los Pumas in their record-breaking 67-27 win over the Wallabies on Saturday. This saw the back-rower from Mendoza scoring for a fifth consecutive time for Argentina in a test match against Australia. The try-scoring streak stated in his home town in 2022.
González scored a second-half try in Mendoza against the Wallabies in the 2022 Rugby Championship. He scored again one week later as Argentina got revenge over the Wallabies to win 48-17 in San Juan.
Australia and Argentina next faced-off in 2023. With it being a Rugby World Cup year there was only one meeting between the sides in the Rugby Championship. González score the match-winning try for Los Pumas in Brisbane.
Argentina had home advantage against Australia in both meetings in the 2024 Rugby Championship. González score the opening try of the 20-19 loss in La Plata and went over in the 67-27 win in Santa Fe.
His tries have come in a variety of ways. In Brisbane he scored from a pick-and-go as was also the case in Santa Fe. In La Plata he scored from a maul. His score in San Juan was from a loose ball following a kick from Juan Cruz Mallía while in Mendoza he finished off a counter-attack involving Mallía and Pablo Matera.
