Uncapped Prop Pedro Delgado in for Pumas as Lucio Sordoni Drops Out

Argentina’s upcoming two home matches against Australia have been impacted. Tight head prop Lucio Sordoni is out for personal reasons. Sordoni started against New Zealand in the loss at Eden Park.

Felipe Contepomi has called-up Pedro Delgado in place of Sordoni. It is a first ever opportunity for Delgado with Argentina’s Senior Men’s team. Delgado is 1.85m tall and weighs 135kg. His first call-up comes at the age of 26.

Sordoni stated the Eden Park test match while Eduardo Bello started in Wellington. Joel Sclavi was a replacement in both matches. The July internationals saw Francisco Coria Marchetti debuting as a replacement against Uruguay. Delgado now has the opportunity ahead of Coria Marchetti.

The selection is a celebration for Northern Argentina. Delgado comes from Old Lions club in Santiago del Estero. Los Pumas will play host to South Africa in Santiago del Estero on September 21. Before then, Argentina face Australia in La Plata and Santa Fé.

Delgado is the third Dogos player selected by Contepomi. Franco Molina went from captaining Los Dogos to glory in Super Rugby Americas 2024 to scoring in the win over New Zealand in Wellington. He debuted against France while teammate and Los Pumita captain Efraín Elías debuted in the Wellington test match.
