Bermuda Complete Solid RAN XV’s Win Over Bahamas

Thomas Grenslade captained Bermuda to a big home win on Saturday. Bermuda completed a solid win over the Bahamas. Played at the National Sport Center in Devonshire Parish, the 35-5 win was Bermuda’s first of the year.

Center Hadleigh Tucker was the first to score. He burst through the mid-field and ran around to touch down under the posts. 7-0 quickly became 14-0. The second try came from long-range. The fortuitous score was from a stollen lineout won by Jake Fields. Robin Brickell kicked for touch only for it to miss and winter Khabir Dill to pounce on the bounce and run 50 meters to score under the posts.

Shortly thereafter, the Bahamas missed a regulation penalty. The resulting goal-line drop-out saw the Bahamas running the ball back and finding their way into the try zone. Amazingly, the score under the posts was unconverted. The 14-5 scoreline brought the Bahamas’ scoring to a close for the afternoon.

Bermuda cancelled out the try smartly. Scrum-half Brandon Sangster took a quick tap and went himself before passing to Hadleigh Tucker. The center went over for his second try. This time the conversion was wide. The scores remained 19-5 at the close of the opening half.

The second-half started with Bermuda taking an opportunity to extend their lead. The penalty made it a 17 point advantage. Bermuda replacement back Rory O’Kelly-Lynch then wen over for the fourth try for Bermuda.

The final try saw Aldo Campbell rewarded for a good match. The second-rower stitched over following an attacking lineout. Bermuda spun the ball with Campbell running into a gap. He appeared to be tackled short but had the strength to reach out and down the ball in the try zone.

Alex Brown added a penalty to end the scoring. It gave Bermuda a 30 point victory. The result is welcomed by the Bermudians. Bermuda’s prior matches in 2024 were losses. Bermuda fell 44-12 against the Cayman Islands and lost 19–14 away against Jamaica. The clash against the Cayman Islands was a warm-up match of the 2024 Rugby Americas North (RAN) Men’s XV’s tournament.

The 2024 RAN Men’s tournament began with Guyana defeating Trinidad & Tobago 24-23. Game two was the aforementioned 19-14 Jamaican win over Bermuda. It was followed by Barbados hammering St. Vincent & the Grenadines 80-0 and Mexico defeating  the Cayman Islands 20-10.
