The NSW Waratahs have announced the arrival of a Puma. Enrique Pieretto joins the Super Rugby franchise in Sydney, Australia with immediate effect. It comes as a loan with Pieretto arriving from United Rugby Championship (URC) club the Glasgow Warriors.
The arrival of Pieretto as a Medical Joker means that there are now two Pumas props in Australian Super Rugby teams. Santiago Medrano plays for the Western Force whom he first joined in 2001. Meanwhile, fullback Martín Bogado plays for New Zealand’s southern franchise, the Highlanders.
Medrano previously played for Los Jaguares in Super Rugby as did Pieretto. The Córdoba native played for Los Jaguares from 2016-2019. He subsequently joined the Exeter Chiefs in England from 2019-2020 before moving north to the Glasgow Warriors in Scotland.
Pieretto was a part of the 2019 Jaguares side which finished second. Medrano was the starting tight head in the Semi Final win over the Waratahs neighbors, the Brumbies. Pieretto was a replacement in the 39-7 win.
The Córdoba Athletic tight head was named on Mario Ledesma’s roster for Rugby World Cup 2019. He featured in the 47-17 win over the USA in Kumagaya, Japan.
Pieretto’s medical joker move to Australian Super Rugby comes at the age of 29. He arrives in Sydney with 25 test caps to his name. He made his debut against Italy in Santa Fé in 2016.
