USA & Canada Pooled Together in London

The draw has been made for the pool stages of the final round of the 2015/16 HSBC Sevens Series, to take place at Twickenham in London next weekend. Once again Americas teams will have to meet each other after being clumped in Pool D in Paris.

With the completion of the Paris 7s, the USA and Canada find themselves in familiar territory. After disappointing performances in France, the two North American teams have been pooled together for the second consecutive tournament. The Eagles and Maple Leafs have been drawn into Pool A with Paris Champions Samoa and South Africa.

Two more Americas representatives will face off in Pool D, where Argentina and Brazil will meet up with New Zealand and Russia in the pool stages. New Zealand are in the unusual position of being second seeds in the pool, having lost to Argentina in Paris.

Pool B is comprised of runners-up Fiji, Australia, England, and Wales. Pool C looks the lightest on paper, with France, Kenya, Scotland and Portugal grouped together.

The USA returns to London, the place where they won their first ever tournament, headed in the wrong direction. After reaching the Cup in the first six tournaments of the season, the Eagles have been relegated to the Bowl in each of the past two tournaments. This past weekend the USA went 2-3, their highlight of the weekend coming with a 33-12 win over Canada.

Canada had an abysmal performance in Paris, going 0-5 and being outscored by 117 points.

With only one round of play left in the World Series season, the USA has dropped out of the Top 5 and into 6th place with Argentina sliding up into 5th place. Canada sits firmly in 13th place.
