Las Yaguaretés Continue to Improve and Claim Second in Montevideo Challenge Series

China downed Argentina in the final of the Montevideo leg of the Challenge Series on Sunday. The 38-7 win gives China two wins from two tournaments this season. With 40 competition points, China lead the way with one tournament remaining.

The final Women’s tournament of the 2024 Challenger Series will take place in Krakow, Poland on May 18-19. Argentina are second overall with 34 points ahead of Uganda and Belgium who are tied for third on 28 points.

Not only does China have 40 points but this is the maximum. The top four teams, following the final round in Krakow, will qualify for a promotion-relegation tournament against the bottom four teams from the SVNS Series. Four Women’s teams will seal their spots from that tournament in Madrid to qualify for the SVNS 2025.

Paraguay claimed two wins in Montevideo. A 10-7 win over Czechia meant a 9th play finish. Earlier on the Paraguayans downed Papua New Guinea 19-5.

Mexico also competed in the tournament. They were hammered first up by Argentina; Las Yaguaretés won 54-0. Uganda were 48-7 winners while Thailand defeated Mexico 38-0 and Czechia did so 29-0.  A 19-5 win over Papua New Guinea saw Mexico finishing on a high.
