The Bristol Bears have confirmed the signing of Benjamín Grondona. The teenager joins the English Premiership club which is also home to his older brother Santiago Grondona. Santiago Grondona has 14 caps for Argentina while Benjamín Grondona is presently uncapped.
Benjamín Grondona arrives at the Bristol Bears at the age of 19. He has already featured for his country at multiple levels including u20 and playing for the next-of-XV, the Argentina XV in the World Cup warm-up matches against Uruguay and Chile.
He is a back-rower who plays either flanker or N8. Benjamín Grondona is also physically prepared. He is 1.91m (6ft 3) tall and weighs 102kg (225 lbs).
Santiago Grondona is recovering from surgery following a horrific knee injury suffered in Argentina’s final match before Rugby World Cup 2023. The 25-year-old was injured when featuring off the bench against Spain in Los Pumas’ win in Madrid.
Benjamín Grondona had a busy 2023. He made his professional debut in Super Rugby Americas. He featured for the Buenos Aires franchise, Los Pampas. The team reached the Semi Finals of the professional league.
The Grondona brothers are from the Champagnat club in Buenos Aires. Santiago Grondona made his test debut for Argentina against New Zealand in the 2020 Rugby Championship. His first cap was historic; Los Pumas defeated the All Blacks for the first time ever. He is expected to be back from injury to play for Bristol in the final quarter of the ongoing English Premiership season.
