Australia Women make it two-for-two in Cape Town

Australia are off to a perfect start on the new sevens season as they followed up their Dubai title with another in Cape Town. A red card to Maddison Levi in the first half on the Cup Final against France nearly spelled disaster for the Australians but Kaitlin Shave’s late try was enough to claim a famous victory.

The USA were the best of the Americas sides on display this week, finishing in 4th to make up for their disappointing result in Dubai. A win over North American rivals Canada in the pool stage saw them making up ground in the overall standings and the Eagles now sit 6th overall.

Canada slipped with just one win from five but still managed to close the tournament in 6th spot, and they now hold a tenuous grasp on 5th overall. Brazil were winless in the pool stage but defeated Spain and Japan on Day Two to claim 9th spot and keep their top-8 position.

The series now goes on a six-week break until Perth on January 26.
