Calendar Set for Super Rugby Americas 2024

The Super Rugby Americas 2023 champions will open the 2024 season in Paraguay. Peñarol will play away against Yacare in Asunción on day two of the season. The opening fixture will be on Friday, February 16 with Los Dogos taking on the Raptors in an Argentine vs USA professional rugby clash.

Super Rugby 2024 will be a seven team league. The teams are unchanged from Super Rugby Americas 2023. Uruguay’s team is the defending champions Peñarol. Chile’s team is Selknam. Yacare are the Paraguayan team, Os Cobras are the Brazilian entrant, and the Denver-based entrant will be the American Raptors. Argentina is the only country with multiple teams. They are Los Pampas based in Buenos Aires and Los Dogos based in Córdoba.

The seven franchises will have a combined number of 250 players. They will have the opportunity of competing in a High Performance environment. It is fundamental for Uruguay and Chile; indeed, their past Rugby World Cup cycle was directly linked to the move from amateurism to professionalism. In addition, Pumas such as Martín Bogado, Santiago Chocobares, Juan Martín González, Joaquín Oviedo, Pedro Rubiolo, Ignacio Ruiz, and Mayco Vivas are former Súper Liga Americana de Rugby (SLAR) / Super Rugby Americas players.

The top four teams will advance to the Super Rugby 2024 Semi Finals. The Semi Finals will take place on Friday, June 07 and Saturday, June 08. The two winning Semi Finalists will contest the final on Friday, June 14.
