Rugby Canada elects new Chairman

Rugby Canada has announced its new Board of Directors following its Annual General Meeting held at their home base in Langford, BC, ahead of the HSBC Women’s Sevens Series event two weeks ago. Most notable among the changes is the election of Tim Powers as Chairman, to replace outgoing Pat Aldous.

He is regularly featured as a political commentator for various Canadian media outlets. During his playing career Powers represented Canada u21 and Newfoundland at senior provincial level.

Gord Sneddon, also Chairman of the Canadian Rugby Championship, moves from Secretary to Vice-Chairman, filling the role previously occupied by Keith Gillam. Pearse Higgins and Chris Le Fevre will also step down. Kathy Henderson is the new Secretary, while Jay Johnston continues as treasurer.

New appointees to the Board are Bill Webb, Andrew Bibby, and John Drake. Long-time NHL executive Brian Burke continues as a General Director, and Dr. Pat Parfrey is Canada’s new voting representative on the World Rugby council, a position he was appointed to in November.
