Tarucas and Peñarol Play Out a Tight Contest in Tucumán

Peñarol got the job done in Tucumán on Monday. The Uruguayans were 21-16 away winners over Los Tarucas. The tight contest was only decided with the full-time whistle; Los Tarucas had several try scoring opportunities in the final minutes.

MATCH NOTES
  • Early tries to Felipe Etcheverry and Santiago Civetta had Peñarol in a commanding position. The lead came after Peñarol’s forwards had won the contact battle.
  • Nicolás Roger kept Los Tarucas in the contest with two first-half penalties.
  • Simón Benítez Cruz made it a one point game with his try three minutes into the second half. It was the best try of the match, featuring three off-loads.
  • Replacement Bautista Vidal touched down 12 minutes from full-time for the final try.
  • A penalty to Los Tarucas saw them back within a converted try. Los Tucumanos then had opportunities to score only to concede penalties with Peñarol able to jackal their way out of trouble while deep in their territory.
  • Peñarol retain 2nd spot in the standings. The Uruguayans are on 23 points behind Los Pampas on 24. Selknam are 3rd with 18 points. Los Tarucas are 6th on 13 points.
