Uruguay Claim Historic First Ever Win over Australia

Uruguay made history at the Singapore 7’s on Saturday. For the first time ever Los Teros 7’s defeated Australia. The South Americans won 28-5, outscoring the Australians by four tries to one. Juan González scored a double for Los Teros 7’s while Ignacio Álvarez and Valentín Vargas also touched down. Australia’s one try was scored by Matthew Gonzalez.

The match was Uruguay’s second of the day. Los Teros 7’s opened with a 22-2 loss against Spain. Australia went from losing against Uruguay to needing a win over Los Leones 7’s. Australia fell by a similar scoreline with Spain winning 28-07.

The results mean Spain topped to pool and will face Kenya in a Semi Final on Sunday. Uruguay will play in a 5th Place Semi Final against Ireland while Australia take-on France in a 9th Place Semi Final.
