Argentina secured the 2025 World HSBC SVNS title on Saturday in Singapore. Los Pumas 7’s secured a spot in the Semi Finals and thereby are assured of a minimum 14 competition points. With it, Argentina will rise to 102 points, or more. This places Los Pumas 7’s out of reach of the remaining competitors this season.
Argentina reached the Semi Finals after rebounding from a narrow loss to South Africa to defeat Great Britain. The result saw Head Coach Santiago Gómez Cora in tears as he knew that his players had secured back-to-back World SVNS titles.
Gómez Cora’s team started the season with a Bronze Finish at the Dubai Sevens in December. Los Pumas 7’s downed New Zealand 14-0 to secure Bronze. One week later the South Americans finished 5th at the Cape Town Sevens.
2025 kicked-off with Argentina shooting up the standings. Los Pumas 7’s claimed three consecutive titles. Argentina were crowned champions at the Perth 7’s followed by the Vancouver 7’s and the Hong Kong 7’s. The Perth title meant back-to-back wins in the Australian tournament while the title in Vancouver extended the dynasty to four straight years.
Argentina’s title at Hong Kong was a first; never before had Argentina won at the prestigious tournament in East Asia. Attention now turns to extending the streak to Singapore; Argentina are looking for consecutive titles in Asia and four consecutive tournaments on the circuit.
Victory over Great Britain saw Argentina booking a spot in the Semi Finals against Fiji. The prize for the winner is a place in the Singapore Final against either Kenya or Spain.
