No Shortage of Points in Cobras Home Defeat against Yacare

There was no shortage of points in the Saturday showdown in São Paulo state. Hosts Os Cobras and visitors Yacare both claimed bonus points in a contest won 36-31 by the Paraguayan-based Super Rugby Americas franchise. With the five competition points secured, Yacare jump from 6th to 4th, overtaking Argentine teams Los Tarucas and the defending champions Los Dogos.

MATCH NOTES
  • Yacare won the battle in the first half but Os Cobras found a way to finish on a high to claim two bonus points. One was for scoring four points and the other for losing by seven points.
  • Os Cobras opened the first try through hooker Endy Willian Pinheiro. He demonstrated yet again why he is an outstanding exponent of the lineout to maul.
  • Facundo Paiva responded for Yacare with his first of two high-speed scores.
  • Fellow winger Juan Gonzalez gave Yacare the lead with a try down the left.
  • Side-stepping from João do Amaral saw Os Cobras go 17-17 on 33 minutes.
  • Axel Zapata scored from a fortunate bounce to restore Yacare’s lead. They stayed ahead until full-time.
  • Juan Cruz Strada gave Felipe Contepomi more to think about. The scrum-half was well-organized and assisted Paiva for his second try.
  • Lucas Sommer scored following a lineout. It ended Yacare’s scoring on 45 minutes.
  • Os Cobras scored two second half tries to end on a high.
  • In claiming the maximum, Yacare leap from 6th to 4th in the standings.
  • Os Cobras are the basement side in Super Rugby Americas 2025. The team claimed two bonus points; yet, the gap has increased between Os Cobras in bottom and higher teams. The Brazilian side is on 4 points while Los Tarucas and Los Dogos are tied on 12 points for the second to bottom position.
