Great attention will be on South America later on this year. The continent’s final round of Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers will see Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay competing for the South America 1 spot. The winner will book their place at Australia 2027.

The qualifying matches will begin during the annual mid-year international window with Brazil hosting Chile on July 19. Chile will host the reverse fixture one week later, on July 26. The winner will advance to the South American final against Paraguay or Uruguay. The first match between them will also be played on July 26.
The South American format is structured as Semi Finals. Both teams will have home advantage in one of the two fixtures. The winners, on aggregate, will advance to the South American Final which will also be contested over two matches.
The winner of the two match South American Finals series will qualify for Rugby World Cup 2027 as South America 1. That team will be the continent’s second participant confirmed for the tournament. Argentina’s performances at Rugby World Cup 2024 in France saw Los Pumas qualifying automatically for Australia 2027.
South America had three teams at Rugby World Cup 2023 and there is a pathway for three again and even for four teams. The loser of the South America 1 Final series will face the bottom team from the 2025 Pacific Nations Cup (PNC). It will be one of Canada, USA, Samoa or Tonga. The winner of PNC vs South America 2 will qualify for the World Cup.
An additional pathway is global repechage. The loser of PNC vs South America 2 will compete in the global repechage tournament. The tournament will include four participants competing for the final spot at Australia 2027. Belgium booked the first spot.
The two losing teams from the South American semi-finals will have the opportunity to join Belgium, the loser of PNC vs South America 2 and the winner of Africa 2 and Asia 2. The winner of South Amercca 3 vs South America 4 will enter repechage. The South America 3 vs South America 4 series will be home-and-away on October 11 and 18.
