Salta Secures Argentina vs Uruguay in July

Argentina will play host to Uruguay on July 19. The home Pumas test match has been allocated to the northern Argentine city of Salta. The fixture will be on the third weekend of the mid-year international window. It will be Argentina’s final home match with it coming after two home matches against England.

Salta secured hosting rights to Los Pumas vs Uruguay ahead of stiff competition, most notably from San Nicolás de los Arroyos. The Estadio San Nicolás was a strong contender to secure the test match. Instead, the Estadio Padre Ernesto Martearena in Salta will host the match.

It will be the 10th test match in Salta. Los Pumas first played at the venue in 2005 against Italy and most recently did so in 2022 against Scotland. Argentina completed an important home win at the stadium over South Africa in 2016. It was Los Pumas’ first home win over the Springboks.

The clash with Uruguay will be the second test match between the neighboring countries in as many years. Los Teros had home advantage against Argentina in July 2024. Played in Punta del Este, Los Pumas completed a record 79-5 win over Los Teros.

The fixture will be Uruguay’s second test match in July. Los Teros will begin with a home match against Romania on July 12. After facing Argentina in Salta, Uruguay will begin their Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers. Uruguay take-on Paraguay with the winner facing either Brazil or Chile in the final round of South American qualifiers.
