Newcomers Tarucas Upset Champions Dogos on the Road

History was made in Córdoba, Argentina on Monday. Los Tarucas came out on top as 22-20 winners of the first ever Córdoba vs Tucumán professional rugby match. The match was a dream contest for scrum lovers; both teams won penalties while defending scrums meters out from their own try zone.

MATCH NOTES
  • The narrow win is third time lucky after Los Tarucas lost 15-14 against Los Pampas and 30-27 against Yacare earlier on this season.
  • Nicolás Roger and Juan Bautista Baronio exchanged two penalties each in the opening quarter for a 6-6 scoreline. Roger went on to kick 6/6 for 100% accuracy.
  • Roger added his third to make it 9-6 before his captain, Tomás Bartolini was yellow carded.
  • Lautaro Simes scored the opening try which Baronio converted before Roger landed another penalty for a 13-12 half-time scoreline favoring the home side.
  • Bartolini returned and made an impact. His 46th minute score was Los Tarucas’ only try of the match.
  • Los Tarucas scored for the final time following the yellow carding of Mateo Sánchez. He collided with Martiniano Arrieta who was taking a high ball just outside the try zone.
  • Despite being a man down, Los Dogos scored with hooker Leonel Oviedo touching down from a maul. Baronio converted in what was the final scoring act of the match.
  • The win sees Los Tarucas overtaking Yacare to now share 4th position alongside Los Dogos on 12 points.
  • Los Dogos secured a losing bonus point. They are ahead of Los Tarucas on points differential.
  • Felipe Contepomi was among the spectators at Córdoba Athletic.
