Brazil Fall Short Against Spain

Brazil were soundly beaten by Spain in Alicante on Sunday. The South Americans fell to a 41-12 defeat in a test match with world rankings on the line. The match was game two of Brazil’s Iberian tour in preparation of the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

Brazil were competitive against Spain in the first-half but fell away in the second half. Natália Rosa and Larissa Lima scored tries for As Yaras while Nuria Jou (2), Clara Piquero, Ana Peralta, Zahía Pérez, and Marieta Román scored tries for Spain.

As Yaras opened their two match tour against Portugal. The Brazilians were 19-12 winners over the Portuguese. Unlike that contest, the fixture against Spain was between two teams who will compete at the Women’s Rugby World Cup later this year in England.

Spain will compete in Pool C of the Women’s Rugby World Cup. The Spanish will do so against Ireland, Japan, and New Zealand. Brazil are in Pool D which also features France, Italy and South Africa.

Next up for Brazil is a home match in São Paulo. As Yaras will take-on the world no 9 USA on May 31. The Women’s Eagles are grouped with Australia, Samoa and the world no 1, and hosts, England in the Women’s World Cup.
