La Rioja Hosts 2025 Sudamérica Rugby u18s

La Rioja will play host to the 2025 Sudamérica Rugby u18s. The upcoming tournament will be played from April 9-11 in the Western Argentine city. It will be the first time that La Rioja has played host to the event. The competition will feature Chile, Uruguay and two teams from Argentina.

Argentina won all five prior tournaments. They were 2018 in Asunción (Paraguay), two in 2019 in Montevideo (Uruguay) and Asunción, and in Río Segundo (Argentina), in 2023 and 2024.

The 2025 matches will take place at the Estadio Carlos Augusto Mercado Luna. The venue has a capacity of 30,000. The games will be played on Wednesday, April 09 and Friday, April 11. They will be played in the format of two 20 minute halves.

In the first stage, all teams will face each other. The top two will contest the final and the bottom two will compete in the Bronze Final.

The Sudamérica u18s is a critical component of the High Performance programs in the region. It directly contributes to elevating players from school age rugby to the u20s. Moreover, with Super Rugby Americas there is now a direct pathway to professional rugby for young players to Selknam, Peñarol Rugby, Los Dogos, Los Pampas and Los Tarucas.
