Selknam Lay down a rivalry marker against Tarucas

Selknam lay down a marker in their first-ever match against Los Tarucas. The Chileans cruised to a bonus point victory over the North-Eastern Argentines. The win sees Selknam well-placed in second spot after five rounds of the season. Los Tarucas were outmatched in their worst performance of their rookie season thus far; Los Tucumanos are tied with Yacare in fifth position.

MATCH NOTES
  • Selknam scored all of the first-half points. They had a bonus point secured and a 28-0 lead at half-time.
  • Federico Kennedy, Martín Sigren, Matías Garafulic and Raimundo Martínez all scored first-half tries.
  • The Chileans were happy to run the ball out from deep.
  • Disicipline let the visitors down. Frustration led to hooker Juan Manuel Vivas’ yellow carded.
  • Los Tarucas were much improved in the second-half. Martiniano Arrieta, Thiago Sbrocco and Mariano García all scored tries before Facundo Cardozo’s try with time up gave them a try-scoring bonus point.
  • Raimundo Martínez continued his excellent transition from flanker to hooker. El Chileno Creevy scored a second-half try to grab a double in the match.
  • Late tries to Marcelo Torrelaba and Alfonso Escobar took Selknam up to 49 points.
  • Selknam have plenty of time to prepare for their next fixture. The Chileans will be targeting La Tripla Corona (wins over the three Argentine teams) when they host Los Pampas on Saturday, March 29.
  • Los Tarucas have a short turn-around before their next game. They face Los Dogos in Córdoba on Monday, March 24.
