Dominant second-Half sees Peñarol Past Cobras in São Paulo

A dominant second-half showing from Peñarol saw there Uruguayans comfortably past Los Cobras in São Paulo. The outcome of the match means Peñarol remain top of Super Rugby Americas 2025 while Os Cobras remain bottom. The Brazilians are winless after four matches while Peñarol have four wins and one loss from their five matches thus far.

MATCH NOTES
  • Os Cobras were dealt an early blow with Ben Donald unable to play beyond the 9th minute.
  • The match was played in wet conditions. The first try was a Guillermo Pujadas speciality; he scored a lineout to maul try.
  • While the first try was about technique and strength, the  second-try was skill and execution. A reverse flick pass from Argentine Bautista Farisé resulted in Ignacio Facciolo scoring down the left.
  • Farisé converted both tries for Peñarol. Lucas Tranquez responded with a penalty. It was Os Cobras’ only points of the contest.
  • Baltazar Amaya marked his return from injury with a try.
  • The debuting Juan Francisco Aguirre Gallardo scored from a pick-and-go to give Peñarol a bonus point.
  • The final try saw Felipe Etcheverry chipping over the defense for Joaquín Suárez to score.
  • Peñarol have a bye next round. They put up their feet as the competition leaders.
  • Os Cobras face Yacare in their next match. The March 29 fixture will be a home game and see Os Cobras seeking their first win of the Super Rugby Americas 2025 season.
