The draw for the 2025 World Rugby u20 Championship has seen Argentina getting a satisfactory group. Los Pumitas will compete in Pool B against France, Spain and Wales. The 12-team tournament will take place in Northern Italy from June 29 to July 19.
The 2025 tournament will be the third to take place in Italy. It is the first in a decade; the last time was in 2015 when New Zealand were crowned champions in Cremona. That tournament produced Pumas including Eduardo Bello, Ignacio Calles, Javier Díaz, Lautaro Bazán Vélez, Domingo Miotti, Bautista Ezcurra, Juan Cruz Mallía and Emiliano Boffelli.
Italy also hosted the tournament in 2011. It also served as a production line for Los Pumas as Matías Alemanno, Jerónimo De la Fuente, Diego Fortuny, Juan Cruz Guillemaín, Nahuel Lobo, Manuel Montero, Matías Moroni, and Matías Orlando also played for Los Pumitas.
Gareth Anscombe was the top point scorer in the 2011 tournament. The Welsh international was not playing for Wales; rather, he was playing for New Zealand. He is New Zealand born and raised but defected to Wales as an adult in 2014 after failing to be selected for the All Blacks.
The 2025 World Rugby u20 Championship is certain to see more future test players emerge. Calvisano, Rovigo, Verona and Viadana will host the matches at friendly viewing hours for those following Los Pumitas from South America. Argentina will be the only competitor from the Americas.
