Uruguay vs Romania Rivalry to continue in July 2025

Uruguay and Romania will resume their rugby rivalry in July 2025. Los Teros will have home advantage against  the Stejarii in a mid-year international test match. It is a rematch from the November 2024 Internationals when Uruguay won in Bucharest.

Since then the Eastern Europeans have secured their place at Rugby World Cup 2027. Romania qualified for Australia 2027 by defeating Belgium 31-14 and Germany 48-10. Georgia, Portugal and Spain also all qualified, leaving eight remains spots for Rugby World Cup 2027.

Romania’s South American tour is the first stage of the road to Australia 2027. The work will turn to lifting the level of the team with the ambition of winning matches in the expanded tournament.

The match date for Uruguay vs Romania is July 12; however, this coincides with Romania’s tour match against Brazil. Uruguay is confirmed to be playing away against Argentina on July 19 while the two Brazil vs Chile RWC 2027 qualifying matches are to be played on July 19 and July 26. In other words, Brazil vs Romania is expected to be moved to July 05.

Romania had been scheduled to play host to Ireland before touring South America. That is no longer the case with Ireland to face Portugal and Georgia in July. The final dates for Romania’s tour are yet to be announced by Rugby Romania.
