Santiago del Chile was the venue for an exciting rugby match between Selknam and Los Dogos on Saturday. The Chilean side were 45-40 winners over the reigning Super Rugby Americas Champions. They converted a 24-7 victory into a first-ever victory over the team from Córdoba, Argentina.
MATCH NOTES |
- The 45-40 win was Selknam’s first victory over Los Dogos. The Córdoba side won three of the previous four matches between them while they competed to a 19-19 draw in Argentina in 2024.
- Eleven tries were scored in the match. Selknam scored five tries and Los Dogos scored six.
- The final Selknam try gave them a 36-14 lead. Los Dogos scored four tries after that point in the match.
- Tomás Salas kicked four penalties and converted four tries for an 88.9% kicking success rate. He leads the SRA 2025 scoring with 49 points.
- Selknam opened both halves with early tries. Center Matías Garafulic scored in the 1st minute from a loose opposition pass. Winger Federico Kennedy went over in the first minute of the second half.
- Agustín Moyano looms as the favorite to claim Argentina’s vacancy at scrum-half. He scored two tries to take his season total to five tries from three SRA 2025 matches.
- Selknam lost Domingo Saavedra to injury in the 12th minute. National captain, Martín Sigren, took over the captaincy.
- Selknam had a solid lineout and a slight edge at the scrum. Los Dogos overthrew three early lineouts deep inside the Selknam half.
- Selknam won the battle at the breakdown. Los Dogos found space down Selknam’s defensive left late in the half to run in three late tries in succession.
- Selknam now join Peñarol at the top of the table on 10 competition points. Los Dogos and Los Pampas are tied for third on 6 points. This is ahead of the final match of the round between Yacare and Los Tarucas.
