Brazil Make History against Australia at Vancouver 7’s

History was made in Vancouver on Friday. Brazil defeated Australia for the first-time. The 14-12 victory was not only a first for As Yaras; it was against the reigning Women’s Champions on the Rugby Sevens World Circuit. The competition will continue in Vancouver on Saturday and Sunday.

Played at BC Place in Vancouver, the Brazilians celebrated their win long in to the night. The win was a shock for those in attendance; indeed, earlier on in the day Australia had defeated Spain 42-0 while Brazil fell 26-19 against hosts Canada. The Americas battle saw Canada pressed early. The scorers were tied at 12-12 before two Canadian tries set-up victory.

Brazil’s second match of the day saw the underdogs downing Australia in a major upset. Teagan Levi and Faith Nathan crossed for Australia in the opening two tries of the match. It gave the reining champions a 12-0 lead. However, the second half saw Brazil standing tall. Yasmim Soares ran in two tries, the second of which was orchestrated by Thalia Costa. With both converted, Brazil won 14-12.
