Benetton and Zebre Parma were both winners this weekend in the United Rugby Championship (URC). Zebre Parma defeated Edinburgh away in Scotland while Benetton defeated Ulster at home in Treviso, Italy. The Italian weekend double featured key performances from Argentines.
Pumas scrum-half Gonzalo García was a try scorer and uncapped Gerónimo Prisciantelli was named Man of the Match for Zebra Parma. In addition to Prisciantelli and García, four other Argentines were involved in the match.
García started inside Tomás Albornoz for Argentina against France this past November. The combination is one likely to move up a gear in 2025. Albornoz was one of three Pumas starting for Benetton against Ulster. He played fly half, and scored 14 points. Ignacio Mendy was a try scorer on the right wing while Thomas Gallo played loose head prop. The uncapped Bautista Bernasconi was Benetton’s replacement hooker.
The win over Ulster sees Benetton occupying 7th position, out of 16, in the URC. Zebre Parma are in 15th ahead only of the Dragons. Zebre Parma have 20 points and the Dragons 8. Five teams are on either 23 or 24 points, meaning more wins may see Zebre Parma rising substantially in the standings.
