Zebre Parma made history in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Sunday. For the first-time in history the Italian side defeated Ulster in Belfast. The 15-14 victory came with a well executed game plan guided by Pumas scrum-half Gonzalo García. El Tucumano was named man of the match.
It is welcome news for Los Pumas. García became the first-choice scrum-half for Argentina this past November. He started two test matches in the position while Gonzalo Bertranou started nine times in 2024. García is well-placed to add to his 11 caps; indeed, ARN projects him to be starting at the next World Cup.
García was one of three Argentines involved for Zebre Parma but the only Puma. Flanker Bautista Stavile, formerly of Selknam, scored the opening try of the contest. Tight head prop Juan Pitinari featured from the replacements for the Italians. While both are homegrown Argentines, Stavile and Pitinari are eligible for Italy. A third Argentine forward, Guido Volpi, is also eligible to play for Italy.
The result in Belfast means Zebre Parma completed a season double against Ulster. Zebre Parma were 42-33 winners over Ulster in round two of the United Rugby Championship (URC) season. Uncapped Argentine play-maker Gerónimo Prisciantelli was a try-scorer that day for Zebre Parma.
After ten rounds of the URC season, Zebre Parma are second from bottom in 15th position. Zebre Parma have 16 points, twice that of basement side the Dragons. Ulster sit in 9th position on 23 points.
