Cobras Bring in Argentine Prop Javier Coronel

Os Cobras have made a change to their 2025 roster. Ahead of the pre-season training at NAR in São Paulo, Javier Coronel has joined the Brazilian professional rugby team. He replaces fellow Argentine Diego Vidal who has been ruled out through injury.

The Brazilian team has an extended roster of 43 players. This is two more than the roster recently named for the Super Rugby Americas 2025 season. Coronel is the notable addition to the roster. The 23-year-old played Super Rugby Americas 2023 and 2024 for Los Pampas.

Coronel is a product of Universitário de La Plata, the same club that produced Italy’s first-ever World Rugby Hall of Famer, Sergio Parisse. Coronel played for the club in 2022, the same year that he also played for Los Jaguares XV in the South American professional league.

The arrival of Coronel in São Paulo comes with Diego Vidal out for the season. Coronel is thus one of the five Cobras players not eligible to play for Brazil. The others are New Zealander Aoturoa Seeling and Argentines Augusto Guillamondegui, Manuel Todaro and Los Pumas 7’s veteran Fernando Luna.

In Addition to Coronel replacing Vidal, the roster also sees flanker Luiz Felizardo out. He is replaced by Bruno Chinedu from SPAC in São Paulo. Fullback Lyan Aquino from Jacareí has been included from the Brazilian juniors as has center Danilo Messias from Maringá.
