2025 started on a huge high for three Pumas who play their rugby in Europe. A trio of Argentines were try scorers in the first matches of the year in England and France. The positive start to the year comes with 2025 to be pivotal as Los Pumas will look to utilize a large roster for thirteen test matches.

Santiago Carreras scored an excellent try for Gloucester on Saturday. The West Country side were 36-20 home winners over the Sale Sharks. In addition to being a try scorer, Carreras also scored a total of 16 points as he kicked four conversions and a penalty. Carreras started at fullback while Mayco Vivas played loose head.
Gloucester beating Sale Sharks sees the sides trading places in the standings. Gloucester are now in 5th on 30 points, one spot above Sale. The Leicester Tigers are in 4th on 33 points. Julián Montoya captained the Tigers to a 28-15 home win over the Exeter Chiefs. Franco Molina started for the Chiefs.
The match of the round was in the British capital. Saracens were 35-26 winners over the Bristol Bears. The outcome sees Saracens in 3rd position on 34 points, one place below the Bristol Bears on 35 points. Juan Martín González and Lucio Cinti started for Saracens with the latter scoring a try.
In France Facundo Isa opened the year with a try for Toulon. Playing N8, Isa charged over in a 36-24 victory. Toulon are in fine form, currently occupying 3rd position on 43 points. Bordeaux are in 2nd on 47 points and Toulouse lead on 50. Isa sat out 2024 for Los Pumas due to a busy World Cup year.
The round follows the naming of the Top 14 Team of the Month for December. Two Pumas were named: second-rower Guido Petti (Bordeaux) and winger Mateo Carreras (Bayonne). The second-row department for Argentina underwent changes in 2024. Among them was Efraín Elías debuting against New Zealand. He had his first start for Toulouse on Saturday.

2025 has not got underway so well for all. The Harlequins lost Rodrigo Isgró in the 12th minute. The Puma needed to be replaced. The nature and extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed. Isgró was a starter for Los Pumas in November.
Tight Head Prop Joel Sclavi was very busy for Argentina in 2024. His year ended with injury for La Rochelle. In the final match of 2024, Sclavi was forced off injured after a heavy knock to the ribs. Fellow forward, Bautista Pedemonte had it worse, though. The Pumas flanker will undergo knee surgery. It is unconfirmed when he will play again for Vannes.
