Guillermo Pujadas leaves Chicago Hounds to return to Peñarol

Peñarol Rugby has received a boost. Rampaging hooker Guillermo Pujadas is returning to Uruguay for Super Rugby Americas 2025. The 27-year-old leaves the Chicago Hounds in Major League Rugby (MLR) to play for Uruguay’s professional team. The move comes in the critical season ahead of the South American finals of Rugby World Cup 2027 Qualifiers.

Pujadas is one of Uruguay’s top hookers. He started for Los Teros in the November Internationals, doing so against Spain, Japan and Romania. He was a try scorer in the match against Los Leones in Madrid. He now has 37 test caps for Uruguay.

Germán Kessler was not selected for the tour. Joaquín Myszka was Pujadas’ understudy. Kessler has 67 caps while Myszka has 4 caps. Fellow veteran hooker Facundo Gattas was also not selected. He has 42 caps.

Myszka will join Pujadas on the Peñarol Rugby roster for Super Rugby Americas 2025. The complete roster will be unveiled in the first week of January. Fellow hooker Francisco García was on the 2024 roster and is yet to be capped by Los Teros.

Leonel Oviedo was recruited from Argentina during the 2024 season. He will not play for Peñarol Rugby in Super Rugby Americas 2025. He has signed to play for Córdoba side Los Dogos. He is the brother of Puma Joaquín Oviedo.
