Fernando Luna is one of five foreigners recruited by Cobras for Super Rugby Americas 2025

Fernando Luna will make the move from Argentina to Brazil to play for Os Cobras. Luna is one of five new foreigners recited by the Brazilian franchise for Super Rugby Americas 2025. He is joined by Argentines Augusto Guillamondegui, Manuel Todaro and Matías Vidal and New Zealander Aoturoa Seeling as the 2025 foreign recruits by Os Cobras.

As was the case in seasons gone by, Os Cobras will be predominantly made up of players eligible to play for Brazil. None of the five foreigners announced by Brasil Rugby are eligible for Brazil. All have been brought in with the objective of lifting the competitiveness of the team. The five foreign players will arrive at Os Cobras in early January.

Fernando Luna is the big name signing. The 34-year-old is an Olympian; he competed for Argentina at Rugby Sevens in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. He arrives at the Brazilian franchise from Industriales de las Roza in Madrid, Spain. The Córdoba Athletic product joined the Spanish side in 2022.

Luna was a mainstay of Los Pumas 7’s on the World Circuit. He represented Argentina from 2011-2024, including at the aforementioned Olympic Games. He was a Gold Medalist at the 2019 Pan American Games.

In addition to having Los Dogos in Super Rugby Americas, Córdoba Athletic supporters will also reason to cheer for Os Cobras. Fernando Luna will be wearing the Cobras colors and he is not going to be alone. Fly half Augusto Guillamondegui is also from the club.

The two other Argentines arriving are both forwards. Prop Matías Vidal returns to South America from Romania. Vidal played for Steaua București in Romania. He is a product of Estudiantes de Paraná. Back-rower Manuel Todaro arrives in São Paulo from Universitario de Rosario.

Depth at prop will be boosted by Vidal and Aoturoa Seeling. The New Zealander brings with him game time in New Zealand’s NPC for Bay of Plenty. He went through the Chiefs Super Rugby academy system.
