USA Claim Silver at Cape Town 7’s

The USA finished runners-up at the Cape Town 7’s. The USA Women’s Eagles fell to a 26-12 defeat against champions New Zealand in the final. This was an improvement for the USA who finished 5th at the prior tournament in Dubai.

France claimed third spot at the Cape Town Sevens. The French did so by narrowly defeating France in the Bronze Final. Canada finished the tournament in 5th place by defeating Japan 22-7 in the 5th Place Final. The third, and final, Americas competitor was Brazil who finished 11th.

The USA started faced Fiji first-up in the tournament. Nia Toliver scored the two first tries. Additional positive play was rewarded with Kaylen Thomas scoring before Alyssa Porter grabbed a double. The outcome was a 29-0. victory.

The USA defeated Great Britain next. The British opened the scoring. Nia Toliver responded with two tries. Ariana Ramsey, Kaylen Thomas, and Sarah Levy also all scored as the USA Women’s Eagles pieced together a 31-14 victory and top spot in the pool.

The play-off’s saw the first match against Australia since the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Australia scored first but Ariana Ramsey crossed to get the Eagles back in the game. Australia then scored twice before Nia Toliver had an assist try with Alyssa Porter scoring. The USA were still behind with less than 30 seconds remaining. Toliver broke the defense to score and give the USA Women’s Eagles a 24-19 win.

The USA took-on New Zealand in the final. The outcome was a loss for the North Americans. New Zealand won the final 26-12 to claim bronze and see the USA finishing second in Cape Town.
