Brazil fell to a 17-15 defeat to the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Wednesday. The fixture was the second of a two match tour. The Netherlands also won game one meaning that the Europeans completed a series win over As Yaras.
The tour brought an end to a groundbreaking year for As Yaras. Brazil qualified for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. The South Americans will be debutants at the World Cup in England in 2025. Brazil will face Italy, France and South Africa in Pool D.
The Netherlands will not compete at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup. The Dutch finished third in the WXV 3 behind Spain and Samoa who both qualified. The Netherlands finished one spot above Fiji who will compete at the World Cup in England.
Wednesday’s match was played in cold conditions in Amsterdam. Low scoring resulted with the teams locked into a 3-3 scoreline at half-time. Jet Metz kicked a penalty for the Netherlands and Lohana Valente did so for Brazil.
As Yaras looked to take control in the second half. Dayana Dakar crossed for a try following a scrum on 45 minutes. Additional pressure from the Brazilians resulted in a second try with Cláudia Beltran crossing in the 62nd minute.
Brazil’s two tries gave the visitors a 15-3 lead in the final quarter. The lead, however, was not sufficient. The final quarter was won by the Dutch and it proved decisive. Isa Prins scored from a pick-and-go on 65 minutes and Pleunie Kievit went over to level the scores from a maul. Kievit converted to put the Netherlands 17-15 ahead and ultimately win the contest.
Brazil’s preparations for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup will see more test matches in early 2025. Fixtures are soon to be confirmed.
