Chile played seven test matches and two non-capped matches in 2024. The fixtures were played in South America and Europe. They came in three different slots: (i) July Internationals, (ii) Rugby World Cup Qualifiers and (iii) November Internationals. The non-capped fixtures were against the Argentina XV before the Rugby World Cup Qualifiers, against Paraguay and Brazil, and against Scotland A in the final week of Los Cóndores November tour.
Head Coach Pablo Lemoine used variety across most positions. During the year, Chile’s starting formation underwent alterations rather than rotations. In total, thirteen forwards and sixteen backs started for Los Cóndores over the course of the nine matches.
Every player that started a test match in 2024 for Los Cóndores is shown below. The players are listed according to the position in which they started. The number beside the player refers to the quantity of starts the player made in the position he is listed in.

Two players started every match for Los Cóndores in 2024 in the same position. Javier Carrasco was Chile’s loose head prop throughout the year, and Domingo Saavedra stared every game at outside center.
Additional positions were dominated by one player. Iñaki Gurruchaga had 8 starts at tight head prop, captain Martín Sigren started 8 times at flanker, and Nicolás Garafulic started 8 out of the 9 matches on the left wing. The only non-start by Nicolás Garafulic saw his brother, Matías Garafulic in his place. This was so despite Matías Garafulic usually playing in the mid-field for Chile and Selknam.
Augusto Böhme had 7 at starts hooker and Santiago Videla had 7 starts at inside center. Of note is that Videla played a lot in other positions during the Rugby World Cup 2019-2023 cycle. The positions include fly half, wing and fullback. He had one start in 2024 at fullback. His brother, Benjamín Videla overtook Marcelo Torrealba to be Los Cóndores first-choice scrum-half; Videla had 6 starts in 2024. Cristóbal Game had 7 starts in 2024 on the right wing.
Clemente Saavedra is a unique case to the make-up of Los Cóndores’ formation. He had eight starts for Chile in 2024. He started four matches in the second-row with them spread across both positions. He also started three matches at flanker and one match a N8.
N8 is tied for the position with the most starting players in 2024. Alfonso Escobar had the most starts at 8 with 5. He also had one start at flanker. Fullback is the other position that had four starting players. World Cup fullback Iñaki Ayarza started twice n November but Luca Strabucchi was the most frequent fullback with five starts.
Similar to Ayarza, World Cup fly half Rodrigo Fernández started in November only. Tomás Salas was not involved in November but started five of the six matches earlier in the year. Juan Cruz Reyes debuted and had two starts in 2024.
