Brazil Fall to Netherlands

Brazil came out on the losing end against the Netherlands on Thursday. The Netherlands were 15-7 winners in Amsterdam in the first of two test matches. The series is match preparation for Brazil ahead of debuting at the Women’s Rugby World Cup in England in 2025.

The match was played in uncomfortable conditions; the cold Dutch air was new for As Yaras. What unfolded was a slow start. It took 31 minutes for the opening points to be scored. Brazil scored first with Edna Santini scoring. Lohana Valente converted for a 7-0 lead.

The Netherlands hit-back before the half-time siren. Solid work from the forwards led to prop Anouk Veerkamp scoring. The pick-and-go try went unconverted. This saw Brazil holding on to a two point lead at half-time.

The second-half did not go well for Brazil. The Dutch went over for a try on 52 minutes to claim the lead. It was unconverted but the Netherlands were ahead 10-7. The score remained as such until the final minutes. A yellow card to Brazil was followed by a try to Lisa Egberts for the Netherlands.

The second match between the Netherlands and Brazil will be played on Wednesday, December 04. Like the first, the second will take place at the NCRA in Amsterdam. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:30pm Brasília time.
