2024 World Rugby Awards Snub Americas

Despite a very impressive 2024, from Los Pumas and Los Pumas 7’s no Argentine player will win a World Rugby award in 2024. With a grand total of zero nominees across all categories, World Rugby have not considered Argentina’s greatest Rugby Championship as noteworthy. No player was nominated for Player of the Year, no rookie was nominated and no try was nominated.

World Rugby nominated three South Africans and one Irishman for Men’s Player of the Year. and one from each of England, Ireland, New Zealand and South Africa for the Men’s Breakthrough Player of the Year award. The try of the Year nominees all play for European teams: France, Georgia, Ireland, and Italy.

Franco Molina played in every test match for Argentina while Jamie Osbourne debuted in July against South Africa. He was a replacement against Argentina this past Friday and did not play in the Six Nations.

ARN expected either Juan Martín González or Juan Cruz Mallía to have a shot at being a candidate for the Player of the Year but neither has been shortlisted.

The Women’s categories are dominated by Australia, England and New Zealand players. Canadian Alex Tessier is the only nominee from the Western Hemisphere. Tessier has been nominated for Women’s 15s Player of the Year.
