Pumas Bring in Reinforcements for Ireland

Changes have been made to Argentina’s roster. Two alterations have been made to the roster ahead of Friday’s test match against Ireland in Dublin. Fly half / fullback Santiago Carreras and veteran flanker Pablo Matera have been called up with Gerónimo Prisciantelli and Efraín Elías returning to their clubs.

Neither Prisciantelli nor Elías were involved in Argentina’s record-breaking 50-18 win over Italy in Udine on Saturday. Santiago Carreras was rested with a minor injury picked up playing for Gloucester in the English Premiership. Matera missed the match following his red card against South Africa in the Rugby Championship.

Elías made his test debut for Argentina in the Rugby Championship. He was a replacement against New Zealand in Wellington. It is his only cap thus far. he now plays for Toulouse in the Top 14. Prisciantelli was in consideration to play fly half, inside center and fullback. His usual position for Zebre Parma is fullback.

Argentina’s 2025 fixtures will feature thirteen test matches. Of note is that the first fixture will fall outside of one of World Rugby’s player release window. The June 20 date means many players will still be busy with their clubs. Prisciantelli is a potential player to fill the void, if required, for Juan Cruz Mallía against the British & Irish Lions.
