South American Men’s and Women’s Rugby Champions will be crowed in Villa María del Triunfo, Peru on Sunday. Day two of the 2024 South American (SAR) Sevens sees Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil and Colombia in the Semi Finals of the Women’s tournament and Chile, Colombia, Brazil and Paraguay in the Men’s Semi Finals.
There are eight competing teams in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions in Villa María del Triunfo. The teams are competing for two spots in the World Rugby Challenger Series 2025. In addition, with the participation of rugby in the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay, there is one Men’s spot and two Women’s spots on the line for the junior competitors. Argentina, Uruguay (Men’s), Brazil (Women’s) and both Paraguayan teams have already qualified.
The Women’s competitors in Villa María del Triunfo will are Argentina, Brazil (As Yaras), Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Venezuela is back this year after not having competing the last time around.
The Men’s tournament does not include Argentina or Uruguay. Like As Yaras, both are assured of placed on the SVNS. This sees opportunities for two Central American countries. The eight Men’s competitors are Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
