Uruguay Missing Key Men for November against Spain, Japan and Romania

Uruguay will be forced to make changes for the November Internationals. Regulars Manuel Ardao, Felipe Etcheverry and Tomás Inciarte will not play for Los Teros writes Uruguayan Rugby Expert, Ignacio Chans. All three will be focusing on work or studies during the three match tour wherein Uruguay face Spain, Japan and Romania in Europe.

The three Teros in question all played for the Miami Sharks in Major League Rugby (MLR) 2024. Flanker Manuel Ardao is an architect by trade. He is one a two-year-contract with the Miami Sharks. Scrum-half / Center Tomás Inciate also has one more year with the Miami Sharks.

Etcheverry is looking to his post rugby career early. He has ended his contract with the Miami Sharks to take up a career in business administration. Prop Reinaldo Piussi, who also played for Miami in MLR 2024, will play for Uruguay in the November Internationals. The forthcoming roster announcement will include a large number of Peñarol players. Players are presently training at the High Performance Center at the Estadio Charrúa.

 

URUGUAY – NOVEMBER REPLACEMENTS

Questions remain as to who will slot in to replace Ardao, Inciate and Etcheverry in November. Manuel Rosmarino looms as a debutant to join Lucas Bianchi, Santiago Civetta, Carlos Deus, and Manuel Diana as the back-rowers.

Santiago Arata will be fit again to return as the starting scrum-half. Santiago Álvarez covered him in July against Argentina and Scotland. u20 scrum-half Pedro Hoblog and 7’s player Juan Manuel Tafernaberry are additional possibilities.

Center will take a hit with captain Andrés Vilaseca out following surgery. Juan Manuel Alonso, Felipe Arcos Pérez, and Nicolás Freitas are established names. Santiago Gini debuted in July while the uncapped Guillerme Storace is also in the frame. Bautista Basso could move from wing to center and Joaquín Suárez also covers the mid-field.

Fly half is more complicated. Felipe Etcheverry, Felipe Berchesi and Juan Andrés Zuccarino will all miss the November Internationals. From Peñarol the player ready is the uncapped Icaro Amarillo. With him involved in Los Teritos in July, Matías D’Avanzo was called-up from Old Boys. Amarillo and Suárez may be the options for November.

 

URUGUAY – NOVEMBER 2024 INTERNATIONALS

Los Teros will play three test matches in Europe in November. The matches will be part of the November 2024 Internationals. Los Teros will be up against familiar opposition from recent years. The test matches will see the South Americans facing Spain, Japan and Romania. The match against Japan will be played in France.

Captain Andrés Vilaseca started against France and Argentina in July. He missed Uruguay’s third match of the July Internationals. This saw Manuel Leindekar captaining Los Teros against Scotland. Leindekar is now expected to be named captain for Uruguay’s November Internationals against Spain, Japan and Romania.

Leindekar plays for Oyonnax in the French Pro D2. Oyonnax is located 150KM north of Chambéry where Uruguay will face Japan on November 16.
