Three prominent South Americans have signed new deals to remain at their respective clubs. All three are Rugby World Cup players and featured in the July 2024 Internationals. They have signed to stay on at Castres, Bayonne and Miami Sharks respectively.
Uruguay’s best player, Santiago Arata has signed to remain at Castres until 2029. Arata joined Castres in 2020 and has previously extend his stay but never so long as until now. The Uruguayan is reported to have had offers to join Top 14 rivals Racing 92, Stade Francis and Toulouse.
Pumas second-rower Lucas Paulos has signed an extension with Bayonne until 2027. Paulos joined Bayonne in 2023 after previously playing for Brive from 2020-2023 and Super Rugby for Los Jaguares from 2019-2020. He started against France in July but missed out on the Rugby Championship.
Veteran Pumas center Matías Orlando has signed a new contract with the Miami Sharks. He joined the Major League Rugby (MLR) in 2024 from the Newcastle Falcons in the English Premiership. Prior to that he played Super Rugby for Los Jaguares from 2016-2020. Orlando featured against France and Uruguay in the July Internationals. He was unused in the Rugby Championship but was on the roster.
