Seattle adds Eagles lock Siaosi Mahoni to list of recruits

Seattle have added USA international lock Siaosi Mahoni to their roster for the 2025 Major League Rugby season. The 27-year-old heads to the Pacific Northwest from the Houston SaberCats, where he has spent the past three years. Mahoni’s 2024 campaign was almost completely wiped out by injury but he is now fit again and slated to tour Europe with the Eagles next month.

At 6’8″ (2.03m) and upwards of 270lbs (123kg), Mahoni brings considerable ballast to the Seawolves scrum and he isn’t the only new second row on the books. South African lock Malembe Mpofu will join from the Pumas in the Currie Cup. The 28-year-old is 6’6″ (1.98m) and previously played in the Varsity Cup with the University of Johannesburg. This is Mpofu’s first overseas contract.

Two high quality backs have also been confirmed for the new season. Mika Kruse joins the Seawolves from the Utah Warriors, while former SaberCats flyer Malacchi Esdale returns to MLR after a four-year stint with the USA Sevens side that culminated in selection to this year’s Olympic roster. Esdale is an out-and-out winger who is a direct replacement for the outgoing Conner Mooneyham, while Eagles XVs international Kruse can play wing but is likely to feature at outside center for the Seawolves.
