Peru to host South American Men’s and Women’s 7’s in October

Villa María del Triunfo, Peru will play host the the South American Men’s and Women’s 7’s in October. The two day event will take place on October 26-27 and feature teams from the South American continent as well as from Central America.

Peru will be the home side at the same venue that hosted the 2019 Pan American Games. Argentina won Gold in the Men’s while the Canadian Women won Gold in 2019. The South American Games will not include North American teams such as Canada. There will be eight teams in both the Men’s and Women’s competitions in Villa María del Triunfo.

The teams will be competing for two spots in the World Rugby Challenger Series 2025. In addition, with the participation of rugby in the 2025 Junior Pan American Games in Paraguay, there will be a Men’s spot and two Women’s spots on the line for the junior competitors. Argentina, Uruguay (Men’s), Brazil (Women’s) and both Paraguayan teams have already qualified.

The Women’s competitors in Villa María del Triunfo will be Argentina, Brazil (As Yaras), Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Venezuela is back after not competing the last time around.

The Men’s tournament will not include Argentina or Uruguay. Like As Yaras, both are assured of placed on the SVNS. This means the Men’s competition will feature  Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru, Venezuela, and Central American countries Costa Rica, and Guatemala.
